Dear Parents,
Welcome to Kindergarten! I know that we are going to have a wonderful year together.
A big focus for our first weeks together is establishing daily school routines. This helps the children to settle in and know what to expect during their day. The children will be having so much fun while engaged in learning that these routines will become second nature.
The theme in Kindergarten during our first week will be familiar fairy tales. We will do activities from the stories, The Three Little Pigs, The Gingerbread Man, Jack and The Beanstalk, and The Three Billy Goat Gruff. The second and the third week of school we will be studying bears and learning about fiction, and nonfiction types of literature. Using the SMART board at the library, the children will have their first exposure doing research in the library. The SMART board is a large screen where the whole class can be on an internet site together.
We will also be having a teddy bear day at school on Aug. 31, and I will send more details closer to the date.
In Math, the children will mainly be getting comfortable exploring the math manipulatives that we use in the Everyday Math Program. Everyday Math teaches math as a natural part of the children's day. You will be getting more information on this program at our back to school night on September 1.
I look forward to getting to know all our new families and continuing friendships with those of you that I have already had the privilege to work with. Please feel free to contact me with any questions or concerns that you might have.
Sincerely,
Joan Bast
