Welcome to Physical Education the Sandburg homepage.  The Sandburg Community is a strong supporter of Physical Education and offers a variety of lifestyle activities for our students.  Mr. Rowe uses the updated LPS curriculum standards to give the children the background they need to live a long and healthy life.

 Announcements
This year our Jungle Ropes Course begins the week of Oct. 20th and runs through Nov. 7th. Below you will see the day of the week and time that each class will be participating in the Ropes Course. This is such a wonderful volunteer opportunity to support your child and their classmates as they work on walking across the cargo net and see the importance of teamwork in action. Every class will need at lease 3 volunteers for each session.

This activity is great for everyone –all you need to be able to do is assist children with the harness, clip and unclip them and encourage them along the way. This is one of the most fun events you can do when volunteering at school!!!

If you are interested in helping 1, 2 or all 3 weeks please contact Christine Sweetland at acce_sweetlands@msn.com or 720-482-0449.

It's Got to be the shoes!!!

PLEASE, PLEASE, PLEASE provide your student with proper athletic shoes for physical education class.  For your child to be SAFE, RESPECTFUL, RESPONSIBLE, AND PRODUCTIVE they must wear athletic shoes that tie or are fastened by velcro.  Crocs, boots, sandels, flip-flops, slip ons, heels, Heelies, dress shoes, etc., are not appropriate.  Please help me help you keep your student safe and successful in PE this year.

 Behavior Intervention

In order to give your child the best learning environment possible, Sandburg will be conducting Behavior Intervention lessons to reinforce our PBS program.  These lessons give our students valuable techniques in dealing with bullying behaviors and conflict situations.  Two key components are HA HA SO and ACTION, acronyms in which each letter stands for a technique that a student can use in a one on one setting or as a student bystander to assist a friend.

 About MeMinimize

Hello.  I am Michael Rowe.  This is my sixth year teaching Physical Education and Bully Proofing at Carl Sandburg, and I am having a blast.

I have been teaching since 1998, after I graduated with a degree in Exercise and Sports Science from Colorado State University (Go Rams!!!)  I have taught both elementary and high school, and I have to say, I enjoy the youngsters at Sandburg the most.

Besides teaching, I also coach baseball at Englewood High School.  This will be my third year as the head coach.  Before I moved to Englewood, I was an assistant at Littleton High School for nine seasons.   I also am currently in graduate school at the University of Colorado in Denver studying for a Master's in English as a Second Language.
